SAN BERNARDINO, CA—Today, following last night’s fatal shooting in San Bernardino, Abigail Medina released the following statement:
“On Sunday night, just a few blocks from my home, two middle-school aged boys were shot in front of a local gas station. The younger of the two, only 12 years old, was fatally wounded. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victims.”
“It’s time we put a stop to this senseless violence and work together. We can no longer sit idly by and watch as our friends, family members, and children are killed in tragic neighborhood shootings. As a mother, I should not have to live in constant fear that my children will be the next casualties of this growing gun violence epidemic. In the State Assembly, I will support our police and fire departments, invest in after-school programs that keep our children out of gangs and in school, encourage community-based policing to keep our streets safe, and prevent the mentally-ill from purchasing guns while simultaneously increasing funding for mental health programs. The status quo is no longer acceptable. We must take immediate action to reduce crime and curb gun violence.”
